VOIP is half the price compared to your normal phone service, this is what makes it appealing to most people

I was reading a Time magazine excerpt in the last few days and found that there is a thing called a skype phone that was sweeping the web.The two guys who began it sold their website to e bay and are now very rich because of it.So why am I getting so pumped up?.Many know it as skype.It is hardly a novel concept making a call to a friend over the www without having to pay for it.

Basically then you will be able to chat to whoever you like whenever you like wherever they are in the world and can even see them if you have skipe and a webcam.It is essentail you get a rapid connection as quickly as you can.Video bandwidth does not justify clarity over a slow connection .

One of the worlds biggest sites Ebay has already jumped on the bandwagon and is flogging phones specifically for skyp.We think skype has been in existence for a year to date and it is proving immensely popular.

The bigger commercial telecom firms are beginning to sell voice over internet protocol packages.All the telecom gurus are watching voip closely thinking that maybe it will crash and burn.Will it take on the web by storm, or is it just a passing fad.

You can be fairly sure that many start ups will enter the market in the hope of making a killing but it has an established foothold.The most plausible scenario is that the federal govt will want a piece of the action by regulation.Skype has to make a buck or two as well and they do this by charging consumers who phone home to their landlines from their computer.

It looks like voice over interet protocol is also at the forefront of web video conferencing as well. With 911 happenning in the not too distant past more people want to travel less and less so it is a great opportunity for voip to put video conferencing back on the map.

My opinion is that audio and video over the internet, especially over a broadband connection will see a shift in popularity.Many people think video and audio will be a passing fad but all the evidence points in the other direction.

The next decade will be make or break for the world of voip and only the consumers will tell us whether the free skype download is worth shouting home about.We will know fairly soon how it performs .
